Hello friends-
This Thursday night from 5-8 pm, Monument will be hosting the
final Art Hop for the season. Rock, Pop and Blues was our theme
last month and photographer Lilian Critchlow's incredible work still
adorns our tea house walls. This month we're carrying this theme
forward with live music. "Who's playing?", you might ask? Yours
truly will be performing a solo acoustic show and, weather
permitting, we will be out on the patio. I'll be playing acoustic
instrumentals, rich, evocative folk songs, some bluesier numbers
and a few funkier tunes to add some spice and grit. As long as music
has soul, I'm not too particular about the genre or style and (I
hope) that comes through when I play and sing. But you'll have to
stop by and linger for awhile to make certain.
Friday Art Nights are still in the works and will be coming this
Fall. Artist receptions, open mic nights, live music, film nights
and a host of other good things are in store.
Best-
Joel B. Pinson
Manager / Art Director

Joel B. Pinson (Singer-Songwriter, Guitarist)
Weaned on the varied, earthy music of Texas, Joel started
playing guitar around age 12 and began writing his own instrumental
music soon after that. He played with many groups throughout his
teenage/college years, performing both original and cover music in a
variety of styles - mainly rock, blues, alternative and jazz. He was
a member of Colorado Springs supergroup Accidental Superhero for a
number of years before moving to Seattle to attend graduate school.
This move to the Pacific Northwest was a key artistic shift in many
ways. Joel moved more deeply into the specific realm of
singing/songwriting and expanded upon his existing skills as a
lead/rhythm guitarist. Alongside his exploration of songcraft, he
studied the intersection of art and faith - how mediums like
literature, film and the visual arts articulate the deepest
yearnings of the human heart and reveal the deepest questions in the
human soul. |

Joel lives in downtown Colorado Springs with his beloved wife Jude
and his older than dirt cat Jake. When he's not working at Wisdom
Tea House or playing music, Joel enjoys riding his motorcycle and
spending time with his wife and friends, preferably over a good
libation. |

Featured Artist: Lilian Critchlow (Photographer)
Born and raised in the historic town of Lübeck in far northern
Germany, Lilian Critchlow (Kaiser) has traveled the globe taking
pictures - living in Berlin, Paris, New York, and San Francisco
along the way.
Lilian’s pursuit of photography began with portraits and nudes, and
progressed to a specialty in photographing musicians as a way to
combine her passion for music, travel and photography into a single
art form. Her artistic eye captures not only the essence of these
cultural icons, but conveys their stories in a personal, intimate
way as well. Her global journeys have gifted her with the
opportunity to meet a wide variety of artists in many venues from
concert halls and recording studios to more intimate settings such
as the privacy of artists’ homes. Her photos have been published
internationally in a variety of newspapers and magazines including
The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Q and People magazine. |
Lilian's most
recent exhibitions were in Berlin in 2005, Singapore in 2006 and
Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2006/ 2007. Her latest showing was at
the BAC in Manitou Springs, Colorado
in 2008.
Lilian is available for studio and location sessions by appointment.
